Configuration
Factions are used to determine how mobs and players interact with each other. Each faction has a base stance towards other factions (such as Hated, Neutral, Friendly) and can have additional stances for specific factions.
For example Faction A may be friendly to all others, except for Faction B, who they hate. If a player from Faction B comes within range of a player from Faction A their interaction settings will be set to the enemy, meaning they can’t use friendly interactions (such as trading) and will be able to use abilities that have an enemy as the target type on each other.
Factions can also be set to dynamic, allowing the stance of a faction towards a player to change (known as reputation). The reputation a player has with a Faction can be changed through actions such as completing quests (and later killing certain mobs).
Stances
By default there are 6 stances that a Faction can have, each with a numerical value, and a reputation amount:
- (-2) Hated: -3000
- (-1) Disliked: -1500
- (0) Neutral: -500
- (1) Friendly: 500
- (2) Honored: 1500
- (3) Exalted: 3000
These settings can be changed in the Game Settings Module.
Mobs belonging to a Faction that you are Hated by will attack you when you get close. Mobs that have quests to offer and items to sell will offer them to players at Neutral or higher standing (so at least -500 or more reputation).
